Postherpetic Neuralgia

Postherpetic Neuralgia, Post Herpetic Neuralgia, Shingles pain

Postherpetic Neuralgia a type of nerve pain that can develop after a shingles outbreak. This is the same virus that causes chicken pox. During the initial infection of chickenpox, the virus remains in the body, lying dormant inside nerve cells. Years later, advanced age, illness, stress, decreased immune system function, or medications can reactivate the virus, causing the shingles outbreak. 

 

Symptoms

  • Burning pain 

  • Sharp pain

  • Stabbing pain

  • Highly sensitive to touch

  • Itching

  • Numbness

Pain symptoms may return and persist for longer than 3 months after the shingles rash has cleared.

Treatment Options

  • Lidocaine transdermal patches

  • Antidepressant medication

  • Capsaicin

  • Anticonvulsants

  • Steroid Injections

  • Spinal Cord Stimulation

Cancellation Policy: No-Call / No-Show and Missed appointments without a full 24-HR notice will be charged a $65.00 missed appointment fee. The missed appointment fee must be paid prior to any future appointments being scheduled.
