Phantom Limb Pain

Phantom Limb Pain

Phantom limb pain is the sensation of pain in a limb that has been amputated, even though the limb is no longer physically present. It's a complex neurological phenomenon where the brain continues to receive signals that feel like pain in the missing limb.

Patients may experience severe, debilitating phantom limb pain sensations, while some amputees experience non-painful phantom sensations as if they are gesturing or trying to pick something up, in addition to feeling tingling, numbness, hot, or cold sensations.
